Austin Fashion Week 2022

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

November 2022 Monthly Adventure

I didn't wake up on a cold Saturday morning with the intention of having a true Monthly Adventure, but I found myself experiencing exactly that later in the afternoon! Just a matter of hours after waking up, I was sitting in the third row at an Austin Fashion Week show and I immediately knew I would need to blog about it. Austin Fashion Week 2022 is Friday, November 11 - Sunday, November 13. So yes, this is an off-schedule post because I simply couldn't wait to share my experience.

Background

According to the tweet from Dominique Newland with KVUE that I saw this morning when I opened Twitter on my phone, Austin Fashion Week is the 4th largest fashion show in the United States! When I initially saw the tweet, I thought it would be cool to see if I could get a ticket and check out a show, but I wasn't fully committed.

What I was committed to was taking a stroll through The Domain and my best friend, Madelyn, met me there to casually shop around. As we exited H&M, we noticed the road was closed off and there were booths and music filling the street. We also so someone in a fun highlighter orange outfit and that drew us into the street to see what was happening. As I suspected upon seeing the orange outfit, it was something related to Austin Fashion Week -- turns out it was a fashion show! I scanned a QR code to learn more about ticket prices for the 3:30pm show that was going to start in about 30 minutes. I decided I would get a ticket to go the next day because I wanted to be dressed better for the occasion and we went into a nearby store to continue shopping.

Madelyn and I left the store about 5 minutes before the show was set to start and decided to stand along the sidewalk to watch a little bit of it since there wasn't anything stopping us from doing so. However, we were encouraged by someone working the show to take one of the handful of empty seats left and we stayed for the entire show! You can view the show's program online that includes links to the Instagram accounts and websites for all of the designers. Here's some of my favorite looks and I'll also be sharing more on Instagram:

Wrap-Up

This was my first time attending a fashion show of this scale and it was so much fun! Each collection was so unique and the models were all incredible. From the designers to the hair stylists and everyone else who played a part in making this event happen, you could tell everyone was there to have a good time and celebrate fashion. I was very impressed by how calm and collected the models were because it was about 55 degrees (not including the wind chill factor) and only getting colder as the sun continued to fade behind the buildings. They were true professionals.

Clearly the morning tweet was a sign of what was to come later in the day, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to witness a show from Austin Fashion Week 2022. I think next year I'll be more prepared for it and get a cute outfit and a ticket to a show to experience this again in style!
